Hello! My name is Kerrie Turney and my role is to be a mediator and conflict management educator working with individuals/groups/departments at colleges and universities across the country to create an avenue to gain a better understanding of conflict and how people can be empowered to create smart solutions to situations.
Growing up as the second of five children, I was well versed in conflict and mediation when I went off to school at Capital University in Columbus, Ohio where I wore many hats as a student leader. They included: being a Resident Adviser, Programming Board Chair, Admissions Tour guide, and Greek letter organization member. The additional training and experience that I received drove me to be a Student Affairs Professional.
I have worked as a Student Affairs Professional for the past eight years at universities across the country from Columbus, Ohio to Fairbanks, Alaska and then to Nashville, Tennessee. Currently, I work at Vanderbilt University, where I have been known to drop a “y’all” or two in conversation. The majority of my work has been in Residence Life and Residential Education with other opportunities such being a chapter advisor for a national Greek letter organization mixed in there. During this time I have worked with talented professionals and students in a variety of areas including crisis response, conflict management, diversity, event planning, as well as many other aspects of leadership development.
The passion that I have for my job led me to pursue graduate studies in Conflict Management so that I could increase my knowledge of the field and gain a better understanding of how I can serve my students and colleagues in a more efficient and effective manner.
When working with people I enjoy creating a comfortable, safe environment that allows people to be themselves. It is filled with hard work, appropriate amounts of humor, fun, and the opportunity to have ownership over the things you do and how you do them.
I look forward to the opportunity to work with you now and in the future. Contact me at any time with questions.
Thanks for stopping by!
